Liquid Capitals, 2000, web project
The project presents an interactive shape shifting map, which
is constructed using pieces of existing coastlines and borders.
These are collaged into equally recognisable and unknown places.
The piece relies upon the iconic status of maps, and their
formal blankness in relation to their geographic, political
and social associations. Morphing between these fragments
recalls timescales both of plate tectonics and instantaneous
electronic communications. This map suggests landscapes as
fluid as capital, as connected as cell phone networks. A map
of collapsing geography.
